After watching the NOVA video “Bird Brain,” I’ve decided to choose aves over canines in my research project. As such, I have not only changed my Twitter/X header to a cool shot of some ravens, but decided to follow more accounts dedicated to the preservation of species in different areas. One account in particular, @/WPCWild911 is an account dedicated to the preservation of Wildlife in Canada and advocates for the protection of endangered species.
I retweeted a lot of interesting tweets from my classmates, especially since there were many #EarthDay posts celebrating nature in its natural habitat. One of the best things I saw this week on Twitter were a few pictures of lovebirds living in cacti. It is so cool to see when animals adapt to environments humans would typically consider inhospitable.

This week I’m glad I was able to comment on some of my classmates’ blogs and check out their websites, especially because of our class being asynchronous, opportunities like these really give us a chance to check out some of our classmates’ works. Two of the blogs I commented on were about the NOVA Bird Brain video, and shared some really great insight on the connection from the video to their findings from the Kluger article in TIME magazine. Ashley saw connections in learning about different parts of the brain like the subcortical nucleus in birds which are in charge of motor control, and Noah saw a great connection in birds being one of many other species to rely on their social behavior and teamwork. One of the other blog posts I read made me realize how others may be utilizing this class to their advantage in terms of their major. Lauren, who is looking to become a marine biologist is utilizing her Twitter platform to find information on aquatic life that she would not have stumbled across otherwise.
Hi! I also noticed a lot of Earth day posts and retweets! I definitely contributed to this trend. One question I had regarding your blog was why specifically you chose birds over canines? I am curious what details or interests swayed you this direction.
